The Municipality stands closer to the Third Age
The Third Age Center has 3 years now that is functioning. A fruitful collaboration between the Lezha Municipality and Albanian Red Cross, Lezha Branch, made possible that on 4 September 2008 this center begined operation. From a very overused garage, after the reconstruction made by the Municipality, it turned into a day center frequented by many lezha seniors. Placed into the “Beselidhja” neighborhood (on the back of the town’s kindergarten), this center is already becoming the meeting point where the lezha’s elderly have the opportunity to take a range of services such as:
- free coffee & tea
- Updating the information with the press of the day
- integration activities such as excursions, celebrating birthdays, holidays, etc..
- medical visits, discussions on various health topics.
- fun games like dominoes, backgammon, chess.
Currently the center is visited daily by about 80 elderly, mainly those who are abandoned and in need. Problem remains the low attendance by the elderly women, it seems like the mentality is not broken yet! It is open daily from 8.00 - 14. 00 managed by the Albanian Red Cross Lezhe branch and afternoons from 16:00 to 20:00 managed by the elderly themselves. Third Age Centre in Lezha is very visited by the sister centres of other towns from around Albania, expanding its good example.
